SHIGETO MCW

Shigeto (Zachary Shigeto Saginaw) is a drummer and music producer, heavily influenced by his father's jazz and R&B collection. The result is a brand of tasteful jazz-inspired minimal house music. Growing up in a town called Ann Arbor, Michigan, it makes sense that Zachary was drawn to the Detroit music scene, which was less than 50 miles east of his hometown. However, he only began making his own music when he was living in Brooklyn, NY and London. He has collaborated with live musicians and rappers, whilst honing in on his skills as an electronic music producer. A number of singles, EP's and albums have sprouted from Shigeto since his first release in 2008, ranging from melancholic and minimal, to upbeat electronica. His newest release 'MCW' features artwork reminiscent of Jean-Michel Basquiat's work - a childish and charming bold drawing of a face. 'MCW' is feasibly Shigeto's most musical track yet. All of the instrumentation sounds live rather than electronic. The rhythm section is tight - a solid drum pattern woven with percussive bongos and a concise funky bass line. Electric piano parts dance with sax, whilst soothing string parts add an air of wanderlust. The track feel like a journey through a summers day from the uptempo morning start to the sunset playing on the ocean into a lust-filled night. This is the perfect jazz-funk record that we all need to loosen our shoulders and let our hair down to. -Ellie Rose Davies
